Year 10

Welcome to Year 10 at St Aloysius’ College!

On this page you will find all key information relating to your time in Year 10.

It has been a very busy year so far for our Year 10 boys. Our focus for this year is raising attainment and aspirations.

The following programmes have been running:

  • TEENS AND TODDLERS: In total we have had 18 boys be part of this wonderful project, where a teen is paired up with a toddler at a local nursery and during supervised sessions the teen and toddler interact with each other. The teen has to teach the toddler basic skills.
  • UPWARD BOUND: On a Saturday morning we have 23 boys attending english, maths, science and life skills classes at Metropolitan University. This project is funded by thee Dame Alice Owen Foundation.
  • THE BIG ALLIANCE MENTORING PROJECT:  18 boys have been matched to a mentor from MUFG (A city banker from the bank of Tokyo). For 10 months, these boys will meet their mentors every fortnight to learn employability skills.
  • READING MENTORS: 15 of our year 10 students have been paired up with a year 7 or 8 learner and they have been mentoring them with their reading.
  • DEBATE MATE: A funded project in which our students are taught skills in debating. We have a large number off students on this project.
  • IMPERIAL COLLEGE STEM POTENTIAL: 5 students have been selected by Imperial College on a 2 year project. They will attend maths and science intervention at Imperial College on a Saturday morning.

Some of the trips organised to raise aspirations include:

  • SKY SPORTS - invited our boys over to learn how to become a sky sports presenter.
  • ARCHITECTURAL FIRM - invited our students in to introduce them to the world of architecture.
  • GOOGLE.COM - sent in one of their workers to talk to the boys about his job.
  • Psychology students visited THE HOUSE OF SIGMUND FREUD.

Home Learning for Summer Term 2020

How do I access learning while school is closed?

  1. Your teachers will set learning for you by 9am each morning which will be due on 4pm the same day. There will be learning set for three or four different subjects each day, and it is intended to take approximately 4–5 hours.
  2. At 9am each morning, go to SMHW (Show My Homework) and check what work has been set.
  3. In order to complete this learning, you are likely to have to access other online platforms such as Hegarty Maths, Seneca Learning or Google Classroom. Your teacher will provide specific instructions about how you should access your learning on SMHW.
  4. You will need to submit your work each day by 4pm so that teachers can review your learning and either give you feedback or adjust their plans for coming days to help you improve your learning. Depending on what learning you were set, you might submit this learning in different ways. Your teacher will provide specific instructions on SMHW. This could be to:
  • Complete quizzes/activities on SMHW, Hegarty, Seneca or other such learning app.
  • Complete questions/written work and submit it to your teacher – you can do this online on Word or by hand and take a photo which is submitted on SMHW.

How do I submit work to my teachers?
Work can be submitted as a word document or if it is hand-written/drawn work simply take a photo and upload it, using the submit function on SMHW. For more information on how to do this see the following link: https://help.teamsatchel.com/en/articles/2912000-submitting-my-work-online

How much work am I expected to do?
You are expected to complete work for four hours each day and complete the weekly quizzes that are set. You should also take daily exercise. The PE department have given guidance and ideas for this on SMHW.

How will I know when I will be set work for each subject?
You will know the work to be completed because it is on Show My Homework and should be completed on the following days and times:

  • Work for all subjects will be set on SMHW and should be submitted online by 4pm on the same day
