Year 12

Throughout year 12, students within the sixth form take part in a tailored programme that prepares them for application to university in year 13. Included in the university programme are a number of workshops, external talks, trips, visits and enrichment opportunities. We also provide students with the information and support they need to make a successful transition from GCSE to A Level/BTEC study.

Below are some of the topics and themes covered in year 12

  • Bridging the gap from GCSE to A Level
  • Career and employment talks from external business and organisations
  • Professional training and work experience
  • Applying to university and making a competitive application
  • Personal statement workshops
  • Choosing the right course for you
  • Choosing the right university for you
  • Apprenticeship options
  • Gap year options
  • UCAS Days ending with student beginning their application in July

Year 13

For our year 13 students, our focus in on ensuring each and every student is supported in making the right post sixth form choice for them. When students return in September, the sixth form team utilises a UCAS strategy that allows all students to complete their application well before the UCAS deadline. Students receive group and 1:1 support to make sure they submit high quality, comparative, university applications.

From January onwards, we closely track and monitor student offers and make sure they are making the right choices along the way, including when they choose the all important firm and insurance offer.

The sixth form team are also on hand on results day to help any students who may need to go through the clearing or adjustment process.
