A Level English

Welcome to English A-Level at St. Aloysius' College

KS5 English:

At St Aloysius we currently offer A’levels in English Literature and English Language both are AQA Specification B. These are demanding, rewarding and academic courses. You must LOVE reading and be confident at analysing texts and writing essays. You need to achieve a grade 6 and above at GCSE English Language and Literature to be eligible for the courses. It is an excellent course to prepare you for many career paths, particularly journalism, teaching/lecturing and publishing.

We enrich the courses with trips and theatre visits as much as possible. Recent trips include: an Othello workshop and tour at the Globe theatre; a visit to the Institute of Education for an A’ level conference; a performance of Much Ado About Nothing at the Old Vic theatre; a performance of Frankenstein and a visit to The British Library's Writing Britain exhibition.

In both years 12 and 13 you will have 6 x 50 minute lessons a week with your two English teachers. It is your responsibility to contact them if you are absent and to collect work missed.

The current courses are made up of coursework and examination.
